Scrapbook - My Best Equine Buddies!
I met Ben when I was eight years old. My grandpa drove into the driveway one day with a horse in the back of his truck - a horse for me! Ben was a buckskin gelding that spent the next year bucking me off almost every day. He was stubborn, but I was even more stubborn! I kept getting back up onto his round, golden back, clutching his jet black mane and hanging on with all my strength - and I finally learned to ride him.
I met Comanche when I was eight years old too, when a mare in our neighborhood, named Apache, had a beautiful bay and white spotted filly. I fell in love with Comanche at first sight, but I knew she'd never be mine. How could anyone sell such a perfect filly? But ... eight years later, they did! I used all my savings and borrowed the rest from my mom and dad to buy her. Comanche and I spent 18 wonderful years together and she still comes to visit in my dreams.
I met Ali when I was an adult and he was four months old, and I immediately fell in love with him. He converted me completely to Arabians! We spent many years together and had many adventures. When he was in his teens, life became too tough financially, and I was forced to sell him – but thanks to the kindnesses of those who knew how much I missed him, he came home a couple of years later. Sadly, he lived only three weeks after returning to me. Saying goodbye to him was very hard, just as hard as saying goodbye to Ben and Comanche. But I wouldn’t trade my time with them for anything!
