Condor Mountain, Guardian III

Suddenly, one of the shadows moved. Elena gasped as Crotalo stepped out from the shadow of one of the trees. The wild mare stared warily at Elena and Mora with eyes that glinted red in the sunset. "You stay back!" Elena yelled though she knew the horse wouldn't understand her. Crotalo only lowered her head and snorted.

Elena waved her arms at the mare, hoping to scare her away. When the wild horse didn't move, a shiver ran down Elena's back. She searched the shadows beside Crotalo, but there was no sign of the strange girl. Crotalo was acting completely on her own.

I don't have time for this, Elena realized. I have to get going. Night is coming and I have to go as far as I can before it's too dark to travel.

"Go home!" she yelled again, though she knew it was useless. The wild horse continued to stare at her with eyes that flashed sunset red.

Elena doesn't believe the strange girl when she tells Elena that her father and his horse, Gato, are trapped in the mountains and that Elena is the only one who can save them. Almost against her will, Elena heads into the Andes Mountains on the back of her trusted mare, Mora. She's sure she'll find her dad there, safe and sound, but now other frightening things are happening. Though there is no sign of the amber-eyed girl, the horse she was riding - the vicious mare that could never be tamed - is following Elena and Mora. And then there are the strange fits that started falling over Elena after she met the girl, fits where she flies and thinks like a condor - and sees a man and a horse below that look suspiciously like her father and Gato.
