Where Evy Lives…

I just came across a great video by Garth Woodward that shows the country where Winter of Crystal Dances takes place, including that most important of beautiful things, the wild horses! The song in the video is by Miranda Swift and it perfectly matches the images in the video.

Miranda’s song and singing and Garth’s video is so beautiful I almost cried. It is like a beautiful miracle to me that horses still roam and live free in British Columbia. I love our home province.

Ohmygoodness, I HAVE to watch that!!
I haven’t been around here in FOREVER!!!

I know, it has been forever since we were all gathered together on here Angelica! Writing stories and learning to write books… blissful times. Angela, I adored the video. For my sixteenth birthday, I’ve wanted to see either Ireland or British Columbia. I just want to find some spot beautiful to visit, and a place with wild horses would be bliss. You write books about the world over Angela, what sort of places would you recommend?

I know what you mean about wanting to go to Ireland, Rachel. When I was 12, I decided that I wanted to go there sooo badly. And I eventually did, though it took me about 30 years. It was my first trip overseas and I went to stay at a retreat on the Atlantic coast of Ireland, near the cliffs of Mohar. It was such an incredible experience. I was alone though, because it was a work trip (I did the outlines of two novels while I was there), so I didn’t travel many other places in Ireland. However, I loved it and would go out every day for an afternoon walk to different nearby places.

However, after saying how great Ireland is, I must say that BC is my favourite place in the whole world. I feel very lucky to live here and would never want to live anywhere else. Summers in our nearby city (Victoria) feel like being on vacation. I’ve lived in a lot of other towns in our province too, near deserts and mountains and wilderness and ocean and alpine and rainforests. It’s just great that horses can run wild here, plus the area that Evy grows up is (I think) the last horse culture left in Canada and the USA! People ride horses to go to the store and to visit, just like in the old west.

Okay, so I better stop now! Can you tell I love BC?

What a great video! It is heartening to know that there are still wild horses left in the world. Where I live they are rounding them up and sending them to auction, and it’s so sad. Thanks for the uplifting video!

    Jessica

That must be so frightening for them, Jessica. I hope they’re going to good families that they will eventually learn to love and aren’t being sold for slaughter. That would be so terrible!
