Another story for us

Many thanks to Gabrielle for this fantastic new story start.

“But I didn’t do it!” Brandy yelled.

“Go to your room, Brandy!” Jean, the babysitter, said. “If you can’t share your horse and have to push your little sister around, then you won’t ride at all!”

Brandy stomped up the stairs to her room, burning with anger. She hadn’t pushed Olivia and she couldn’t believe her little sister had lied like that. If Olivia hadn’t been yelling at Brandy, then her beautiful chestnut mare Sagitta wouldn’t have gotten scared, and she wouldn’t have shied away and then Olivia - who shouldn’t have been leaning on Sagitta in the first place - wouldn’t have fallen.

Brandy felt the injustice of everything welling up in her again and she tried to drown it out by listening to music.

A few minutes had gone by when Brandy heard Sagitta’s terrified whinny. It was followed barely a second later by a high-pitched scream. Olivia!

She ran down the stairs and nearly ran into Jean. The two of them ran out the back door and hurried towards the barn. What Brandy saw stopped her dead in her tracks. Sagitta was saddled and bridled, despite having been undressed in her stall earlier. Olivia was lying in a mud puddle with her arm twisted underneath her.

“Why were you riding my horse?” Brandy cried, as Jean yelled, ”Olivia, your arm! Brandy, call your parents right now!”

“I’m fine,” Olivia said angrily. She swiped at her tears and got mud all over her face. “That dumb horse threw me off.”

“You scratched her leg!” Brandy accused. She could see a scrape on one of Sagitta’s long, red legs. Kneeling beside the high-strung mare, Brandy examined the tender skin. “Why were you riding her?”

Olivia started to cry. “She hurt me! I think my wrist is sprained.”

“I thought you were fine,” Brandy retorted. She knew Olivia was just trying to get sympathy so she wouldn’t get in trouble. “You know you’re not allowed to ride Sagitta if I’m not there. You could have hurt her! You’re never riding my horse again!”

“You’ll be sorry,” Olivia said ominously, as Jean helped her to her feet.

“I will not,” Brandy shot back, but she couldn’t help a little shiver at Olivia’s angry glance towards Sagitta.

“That horse has to go! Olivia could have been seriously hurt!” Brandy’s mom, Molly, was pacing through the living room. “I’m sorry Brandy but Sagitta is obviously too dangerous to keep here. Olivia’s wrist is badly sprained and it’s a wonder there wasn’t any more damage.”

“But Mom, it was Olivia’s fault!” Brandy said insistently. Sagitta wouldn’t hurt a fly.”

“Obviously that’s not true,” Brandy’s dad Jack returned. “We simply cannot keep a dangerous horse. Next time it might be you getting hurt. It’s just a good thing Jean was here keeping an eye on you.

I’ve always thought Sagitta was too nervous for a child’s horse. She’s dangerous. I wouldn’t feel right selling her to another person.”

“You mean…?” Brandy couldn’t say the rest of the words that screamed through her head.

“Yes, Brandy,” Molly said. “I’m afraid we’re going to have to put her down. We’ll drive her over to the vet tonight and have it done with.”

Olivia’s pleased face was too much for Brandy to bear. She jumped out of her seat and flew out of the room.

The trailer was rocking hard in the storm. Brandy could hear Sagitta crashing around inside, whinnying in fear. “It was Olivia’s fault,” Brandy said for the hundredth time. Jack kept his eyes on the road, barely visible through all the rain.

“Brandy, I’m really sorry, but this has to be done. We’re lucky Dr. Tubman would take us on such short notice.”

“Lucky?” Brandy muttered.

Suddenly, a huge flash of lightening blinded them. Thunder cracked like a whip. Inside the trailer, Sagitta screamed and flung her head up, throwing her forelegs forward in a desperate rear.

Back in the cab, Brandy screamed. The trailer rocked, teetered on two wheels, and fell over. It rolled down a slope, tumbling, twisting, and finally stopped - right side up - in a deep gulch filled with water.

It was over so quickly, she barely knew what had happened. “Dad, are you okay?” she cried.

“I’m fine, Brandy. How about you?” Jack said faintly.

“Sagitta!” Brandy pushed open her door and leaped out of the truck, running around to the back. The trailer door was wide open and Sagitta was nowhere to be seen.

So what happens next?

  1. Breanna Says:

Brandy ran into the woods that was growing nearby, Sagitta probably ran in there.

“Brandy! No! Who knows what’s in there and you could get lost!!!!!” her Dad screamed.

Half mad with terror Brandy ran into the woods. Sagitta was in there-she knew it! In the back of her mind she remembered stories of people meeting bears in these woods; what if Sagitta met one?

“What if I meet one?” she thought “Sagitta would be able to smell one before you would see one, and even if you did find her, she would just be put down.” The thought in her head did have some sense but almost subconciously she ran into the woods. “Sagitta!” She screamed repeatedly, running deeper in to the woods. “Sagitta!”

Finally she realized how far she was running. Brandy stopped. Maybe she should go back, she turned around suddenly got terrified- nothing looked familiar! She was lost!

  2. Mirriam Says:

A cold wind was starting to come up. The wind whistled through the trees like a large, unseen ghost. “Go away,” muttered Brandy. Then she cupped her hands around her mouth. “SAG-IT-TA!” She waited. Nothing. Tears began to trickle down her face. Her horse was gone. Maybe she would find another girl and love her and forget all about her owner Brandy. Brandy sniffed and sagged down against a tree.

  3. Mirriam Says:

I don’t know if I’m allowed to add Angelica, but can I? We could do our very own Horse Angel story!

  4. Angela Dorsey Says:

I would love to do that, Mirriam, but I don’t own the rights to Horse Angel - which means we can’t have Angelica in the story. I used the first part of your story addition though.

  5. Mirriam Says:

    Thanks!

  6. Mirriam Says:

It wasn’t until half an hour later, when Brandy was still sitting underneath the tree, that she realized what a stupid thing it had been for her to leave the truck, trailor, and her dad and come out here looking for a horse in the dark, in a forest which she had never been in. But the only thought running through her head was the vicious statement “I hate Olivia.”

  7. Amanda Says:

How could her sister be so cruel? Didn’t she feel even a little remorse for Sagitta? Suddenly her sadness was replaced by anger. How dare her sister? What right did she have to determine Sagitta’s fate? A jolt of hope shot through Brandy’s body. She couldn’t give up. She had to find Sagitta.

Brandy cupped her hands again and began to holler Sagitta’s name, but a loud crash of thunder drowned her out. Brandy jumped. She looked up at the inkling of sky that she could see between the tree tops. The storm had looked as if it were going to pass but now the sky looked black and ominous. Lightening flashed and brightened the clearing even through the thick trees. Brandy shivered, but not from the cold.

“Sagitta!” she hollered. Nothing. She hollered again. And again. Still nothing.

Then it started to rain. It was a light drizzle at first, but then the sky opened up and it poured. Even under the shelter the trees provided, Brandy was soaked through within a minute.

A sudden rustling noise to Brandy’s left made her jump. She whirled around and watched as a creature slowly emerged from the thick trees. It was a horse. But it wasn’t Sgaitta. Brandy’s mouth fell open as a black horse stepped into the clearing. Brandy couldn’t believe her eyes. The horse stopped and stared at Brandy with dark caring eyes. Brandy was amazed at how black the horse was. Even in all this rain there wasn’t a speck of mud, or anything on the horse’s coat. Suddenly the horse spun around and darted back into the forest. Brandy didn’t know how she knew, but she knew the horse wanted her to follow it. She didn’t hesitate. She ran after the horse.

As they darted between the dark trunks she was careful not to lose sight of the black horse. She could see it trotting just ahead of her and it seemed to know where it was going. Brandy ran and ran until she was exhausted, but still, she keot running. And then the horse stopped. Brandy could see a large clearing ahead. She slowed to a walk to catch her breath. She walked up behind the black horse and to the edge of the clearing. She looked past the trees and into the clearing. Brandy gasped. There in the clearing was a…

  8. Mirriam Says:

pure white mare, standing neck to neck with the coal black stallion. They were the most beautiful horses Brandy had ever seen. Even at this moment, she couldn’t help but thing smugly ‘I bet if Olivia saw THESE two she’d go MAD with jealousy.’ Then another voice inside her spoke loud and clear. ‘They aren’t even yours.’

“I know, so you shut up!” She hadn’t meant to say it out loud, but at her voice the two horse’s heads jerked up, manes and forelocks flying. “Oh, dear,” sighed Brandy. But they both just looked at her, as if they knew she was in trouble. She wiped her wet, stringy hair away from her face.

  9. Mirriam Says:

    Thanks, Angela! :)

  10. Mirriam Says:

Suddenly a tiny, high little neigh sounded, right next to Brandy. She jumped and shrieked, but suddenly an adorable, rich chestnut foal came bounding out of the foliage to her left and ran on it’s too-long legs to it’s mother.

Brandy gasped. “O-oh, how CUTE!” she exclaimed softly. She didn’t want to scare it, or the others, away. Suddenly, a picture of another horse popped into her head. “Saggita,” Brandy moaned. How was she ever going to find her horse if she couldn’t even keep her mind on searching?

  11. Amanda Says:

She wiped the wet stringy hair from her face as she stared at the horses. What in the world were these beautiful horses doing way out in the woods? A sudden thought struck Brandy. “I bet you guys are wondering the same thing about me, huh?”

The horses just stared at Brandy, with knowing eyes. Then the white horse stepped away from the stallion walked toward Brandy. Brandy automatically took a step back. The horse snorted, as if insulted.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to offend you.” Brandy apologized. Brandy watched as the horse walked over to a fallen log stood there. The horse looked at the log, then at Brandy, then back at the log.

“You want me to get on your back?!” Brandy asked in amazement. The mare snorted, as if to say “Duh.” Brandy hesitated. She didn’t even know this horse, not to mention the fact that she didn’t have a saddle or bridle. The horse just stared at Brandy anxiously.

“Okay, fine. But you better not take off or anything.” Brandy walked slowly over to the horse and stepped up onto the log. ‘I cannot believe I’m doing this! Olivia would never believe me.’ There was that stupid thought again. ‘Who cares what Olivia thinks.’ Brandy told the voice in her head. Brandy took a deep breath and slowly slipped her leg over the mare’s back. The mare stood perfectly still the whole time.

Brandy was surprised by how round the horse’s back was. Sagitta’s back was very bony and uncomfortable campared to this horse. Brandy grabbed a handful of amazingly soft, white mane. The nudged the horse with her heels. As the white mare walked slowly out of the clearing and into the woods, in the opposite direction of which Brandy came, the other horses followed close behind.

  12. Angela Dorsey Says:

Sorry, Amanda, I changed yours just a little bit, so yours matched Mirriams. You both sent them almost at the same time!

  13. Mirriam Says:

:) That’s fine with me! Great going, Amanda!

  14. Mirriam Says:

The black stalllion pranced along beside them, his proud head finely dished. Brandy studied him, and thought he probably had some Arabian in him, as well as Fresian. “An interesting mix,” she said to herself. “I should try it.” THe foal whinnied. “Not on myself, of course,” she corrected hastily.

She giggled as she noticed that the foal was trying to prance proudly along, just like his sire. It wasn’t working as he planned. THe colt’s long legs kept getting in his way, and Brandy kept thinking that he was going to trip over himself. “But being very cute the whole time,” she thought with a grin. She gently tugged the handful of white mane, turning the mare to the left. THe mare shook her mane and snorted, as if to say “I knew that, no need to pull.” Brandy, without thinking, said “Oh. I’m sorry.” Then she flushed as she realized that if Olivia were there, she would have laughed and laughed, then probably told everyone at school.

She felt her temperature rising as she realized that it was Olivia’s fault Saggita was now lost. If they hadn’t been driving her to the ‘vet,’ they never would have falen out of the trailer! But then she over thought herself ans she realized that without the trailer falling open, Saggita would probably have been put down by now. She picture her father, probably frantic, standing in the rain, trying to dial 911.

Suddenly a thought struck her like a lightning bolt. Olivia was a murderer! She knew that she could get Saggita away by first of all, riding her when she was Brandy’s horse, and second of all, having the ‘fall’ which Brandy was certain she had faked. But she knew that Saggita had a scratch up her leg, and it was Olivia’s fault. And she knew that if not for Olivia, they would still have Saggita, safe at home in a dry stable. ‘Olivia is a murderer. Olivia is a murderer.’ ran over and over through Brandy’s head.

“Now that’s going a little too far.”

Brandy nearly screamed. That had come from inside her head. “What?” she cried.

The voice sounded inside her head again. “I said that’s going a little too far. Your sister is not a murderer, technically the vet is. He is the one who was going to put your horse down before this…mess came a long, wasn’t he?”

“Who are you?” shrieked Brandy, numb with shock and rain. She thought maybe she was thinking it herself, but it was as distinct from her other thoughs as if it was written down and stuck in front of her face.

“You are riding me, you should know,” answered the voice. Brandy stared, mouth open catching rain, at the white horse that plodded placidly along underneath her.

    “You can talk?”

“I can comunicate telepathically, if that is what you mean. Most horses can, if they care too. Some can’t. They have either have it beaten out of them, or they were born with a defect.”

“Why hasn’t Saggita ever talked to me before?” asked Brandy.

    “Ask Saggita,” answered the mare.

  15. Amanda Says:

    Thanks! :)

  16. Mirriam Says:

“Yeah, right. ‘Ask Saggita,’ she says,” said Brandy irritably. She was soaked through, riding a mysterious talking horse, it was night, HER horse was lost, and even if she did find it, it was going to the vet’s to be ‘humanely’ put down.

“I know you are upset, but there is no reason to let it interfere with your speech,” said the mare. Brandy could see the mare’s ears tilting slightly backwards.

“Sorry,” she mumbled in a half-hearted apology.

“You can do better than that!”

Brandy started. This was a different voice. A higher, squeakier one.

“Who was that?” she asked out loud. A whinny made her look down to see the little foal looking up. “Oh. You,” was all she could say.

“Be polite,” said yet another voice. She saw the black stallion’s proud, finely etched ebony face turned to look at her, his perfectly shaped ears pricked in her direction.

“Why is everybody picking on me?” she asked, sounding whinier than she meant to.

  17. Amanda Says:

Just then the two horse and the foal stopped. Just as they did so, Sagitta, alive and well, stepped out of the woods before them.

“Sagitta?!” Brandy cried in shock. The talking horses and seeing Sagitta were too much for Brandy to digest. Brandy’s head spun in shock, and she felt herself getting dizzy. Black dots danced before her eyes for a moment and then…blackness… Brandy fell, unconsious, like a lump to the forest floor.

  18. Angela Dorsey Says:

I’m going to be away until next Tuesday, so won’t be able to put any story additions on until then. Sorry!

  19. Mirriam Says:

    Have fun, Angela!

  20. Mirriam Says:

“Hey.” the word echoed through Brandy’s head. Why was it? It had slipped into her dream, so now her sister Olivia was saying “Hey” over and over. Suddenly her eyes flew open.

“Hey, you’re awake!” And she found herself looking into the faced of the most gorgeous boy she had ever seen. He had fabulous dark eyes and thick black hair, and was looking at her with genuine concern.

She suddenly felt very self concious, knowing that she was damp, her hair was disgusting, and her clothes needed washed. She groaned inwardly. ‘Why now?’ she wondered.

“You OK?” the boy asked, looking at her with a mixture of amusement and puzzlement. “What were you doing out there in the middle of the woods?”

Suddenly she sat up like a shot. “Where am I?” she asked. “What time is it? What happened to the horses?”

He held up his hands in mock defense and laughed “Whoa whoa whoa, let’s slow down here! Okay, this house is sort of in the forest. Actually it’s more of a cottage. Don’t worry, I’m a nice guy.” He flashed a rakish grin at her. She felt her insides melting as she thought “I BET you’re a nice guy!” “Second of all, it’s about one o’clock in the morning. You were conked out nearly two hours! What’d ya do, faint?”

    “Um, well, yeah.”

    “Oh. Sorry!”

“No, no, that’s okay,” said Brandy with a shaky giggle. “And hey, thanks for finding my horse.”

    “What?” asked Brandy, confused.

“You know, the black stallion that came along with you? I looked out the window and Harley was coming up the drive dragging you in his teeth, with a white mare and a dapple gray foal. Oh, and there was a chestnut mare with them, too. At least I think it was a mare, I didn’t exactly check.”

“She’s a mare,” said Brandy hastily. “She’s my horse, Sagitta. What did you say your horse’s name was?”

He grinned again. “Harley, after the Harley-Davidson motorcycle since he’s big and black.”

“That’s neat,” I said, giving him a grin back.

Suddenly he laughed again. “What is your name?” he asked.

    “Oh! Tia. Tia Montrose.”

“Pleased to meet you Tia, Tia Montrose. I’m Jared Siamon.”

  21. Gabrielle Says:

All of Mom’s warnings about not trusting strangers just kicked in, which was why I didn’t tell Jared my real name.

  22. Gabrielle Says:

“You probably want to get dried off,” Jared said. “And check on your horse. My sistr is about the same size as you, so you can borrow some of her clothes. C’mon.” He held out his hand and pulled me to my feet.

I shivered as a breeze blew, which made me feel even colder, although the sun was fighting to come out.

The front door to the cottage opened and a girl a little older than me stepped out. “Hey! Jared, who’s this?”

“Tia,” he said. “She found Harley and she’s soaked.”

“I’m Emily.” The girl stepped back to let Jared and I come through the door. “I just checked on Harley and the other horses. They’re all OK. Are they yours, Tia?” she looked at me.

“The chestnut mare is,” I said. I was dripping water on the floor. “Her name is Sagitta.”

I felt a pang. Dad was probably worried sick about me and Olivia was probably mad because Sagitta was still alive. “Anyway,” I said out loud. “Thanks for taking care of her.”

“Come on,” Emily said. “I’ll take you upstairs so you can dry off. Jared, why don’t you get some hot chocolate? You’re about as pale as a ghost, Tia.”

  23. Angela Dorsey Says:

Sorry, Mirriam, you sent your new addition after Gabrielle sent hers, so I put hers on instead. But send in another one soon!

  24. Mirriam Says:

That’s ok! It’s funny that we were on at the same time!

  25. Mirriam Says:

Brandy felt like a ghost. A dirty one. She felt like she was floating through space. She followed Emily up the stairs. Suddenly she ventured a question. “Why are you living out here, in the forest? It doesn’t make sense!”

Emily grinned. “It’s because it’s cheap! We’re not exactly rich, although we are better off than a lot of people. Jared has to work hard to keep Harley.”

“What kind of work does he do?”

“He chops wood, then delivers it to places around here. You know how it is.”

    “No, not really.”

“Oh, I mean how all the old folks live around here, and they get colder than we young pups do,” laughed Emily. Brandy grinned. Emily continued. “We have a shed where we keep the horses, and if you get Saggitta again, we can keep her there for you.”

Suddenly Brandy looked up. “I’ve got it!”

“Got what?” They were in Emily’s room now, and Brandy fell in love with it. It looked like a room out of a fairy tale. Sparse, but with fresh flowers, and a small dog bed with several baby “Squirrels?” cried Brandy.

“Yes, I take in injured or abandoned animals and then release them when the time comes.” Brandy grinned. “Now what did you ‘get’?” asked Emily curiously.

“I could let my dad think that I had lost Saggitta, but you would be keeping her here!” Suddenly a pang went through Brandy. They had just said they were poor! She plowed ahead. “I could come every day after school and help Jared or whatever I had to do, and I would take care of Saggitta, anything! Just so as I don’t have to send her to be put to sleep!”

“Well, it might work,” said Emily, looking thoughtful, “But what do you mean, ‘put to sleep’?”

“Oh. Well, my little sister Olivia”…

The two girls sat on Emily’s bed for half an hour while Brandy told her story. She finished by saying “And so Jared found me. And that’s all. The end.”

“Well!” exclaimed Emily. She sat in silence for a moment, then said “I’ll do it. Jared caught Saggitta and put her in the barn, but the other horses got away. I’m sorry.”

“Oh, that’s all right, they weren’t mine! But they could ta-” she cut off short. Maybe she shouldn’t say. Then Emily would think she was really crazy!

  26. Gabrielle Says:

“Do you think you should call your house?” Emily said, pulling Brandy from her thoughts.

“Oh, I probably should.” Brandy hopped off the bed, reluctant to leave this almost magical cottage.

“We only have a cell phone,” Emily said. “It’s downstairs. Come on, I’ll show you.” She led Brandy back downstairs and into a small, tidy room. It was all green and yellow and red and made Brandy think of being in the top branches of an apple tree.

Jared was sitting on the couch. “Oh hey. You guys sure took a while. And you’re still in your wet clothes.”

Brandy looked down and laughed. “Oh, it doesn’t matter, I’m almost dry now. I have to call my parents.”

Emily handed her the cell phone and, steeling herself for questions, Brandy dialed.

  27. Breanna Says:

Her mom answered on the first ring “hello?” she sounded worried.

“Mom it’s me…” she was going to go on but her mom interuppted

“Brandy! Sweetie where are you! your Dad told us what happened. The police are after you and everything, search parties, news reports I could go on forever! What were you thinking going into those woods you know there’s bears in there.”

News report? Search parties? Police? Boy she was in more trouble then she thought, and there was saving it. She glanced at Emily and Jared from the look of ther faces they had heard her mom loud and clear. That meant they heard her say “Brandy”.

  28. Mirriam Says:

Emily exchanged looks with her brother. He gave an ever-so-slight shrug, and they both began to go about their business. Brandy could see that they were doing it to give her some phone privacy, but she felt awful anyway.

  29. Mirriam Says:

As soon as she hung up, Brandy wanted to melt into the floor. Jared looked at her and said with a half smile, “So, Tia, do you want to go see your horse?” He stressed the word ‘Tia.’

Emily looked strained, but still managed to smile and say “Come on, I’ll show you where the barn is.”

Brandy had never felt worse. A deep feeling in the pit of her stomach wasn’t helping either. They walked to the barn, which was hidden behind a grove of birch trees. It was small, but large enough to accommodate three or four horses. Saggitta stood in her stall, calmly munching on hay and whinnied when Brandy entered the stall. Suddenly Brandy remembered, and walked over to her horse. Emily politely stood by another stall, as though she wasn’t paying attention. Emily opened the stall door and stepped in. She walked to the back of the stall and Saggitta followed, her ears pricked and eyes inquisitive.

“Can you talk? YOu know, with your mind? To me?” Brandy asked in a hurry. She whispered it, because she didn’t want Emily to overhear her talking to a horse.

A voice entered Brandy’s head. “Of course I can, you idiot! Didn’t you know that?”

“I didn’t until I rode another hrose here, and she talked to me.”

“Another horse?!” The voice became higher, and she actually saw Saggitta giving her a disapproving look.

“Look, she ran off. It wasn’t anything, you’re still my favorite. Sheesh, I never knew you were jealous!”

  30. Mirriam Says:

“Jealous? Me? I am not!” The horse stiffened her neck indignantly, and Brandy giggled. “By the way, thank you for letting me escape. I wasn’t exactly thrilled about being put to sleep. And by the way, thank you also for defending me. That little brat of a creature you call a sister really rubs me the wrong way!”

“I know, she does me, too,” sighed Brandy. She had forgotten. She still had that problem to work out. Maybe if she could prove that Olivia had been in the wrong? If she brought Saggitta back, and then she and her parents snuck down to watch her riding? “That’s it!” She shrieked.

Saggitta half-reared and said “Please! Refrain from shouting in my ears! Now, what’s ‘it’?”

  31. Breanna Says:

“You didn’t really throw Olivia did you?” Brandy asked already knowing the answer.

“No she set me up to make me look I did,” Sagitta answered.

“Exactly, so if you come home with me she’ll be mad with jealousy.”

“Um, ya.” Sagitta sounded really confused.

“So she’ll do it again, right,” Brandy stated

“I’m not following you,” Sagitta answered.

“All we have to do is prove to my mom and dad that you didn’t really throw her and by that we need proof, but this time we’ll be ready,” she answered smiling.

  32. Mirriam Says:

“So, you set up a stakeout?” asked Saggitta, her ears pricked.

“How did you even know that word?” asked Brandy, taken aback.

“You read all your spy novels in my stall, why shouldn’t I know it?” asked the horse indignantly.

  33. Amanda Says:

“Oh, I guess you have a point!” Brandy laughed.”The stakeout is a great idea but Olivia could always just deny it again; so this time we’re going to have a camera. This time the whole thing will be recorded so that my parents can watch. I’d like to see Olivia deny that!”

“Sounds like a plan,” said Sagitta. “Just one thing though, what is she hurts me when she fakes her next fall?”

Brandy hadn’t thought of that. “Hmmmm…”

  34. Mirriam Says:

Suddenly she looks up. “I have a way to make sure she can’t hurt you too much.”

    “Too much?” interrupted Saggitta.

“Please? If she does anything serious, I’ll…I’ll wrestle her with my bare hands!”

Saggitta huffed out a sigh, then said “All right.”

“We’ll take all spurs, whips and other things out of the barn, then I’ll clear the yard of sticks or anything she could use to beat on you. Okay? And if she does start hurting you, you can rear. Just don’t hurt her.”

    “Not at all?”

    “Well, not too much.”

    “Done.”

  35. Mirriam Says:

Emily was looking over at them with an unreadable expression on her face. “I think I’m being rude. I’d better go now. Hey, do you know who those horses were that I rode?”

    “No.”

“Oh. Thanks anyway. I’ll come visit you later, okay?”

“Fine, just don’t spend to much time with those other horses. Or that boy.”

“What do you mean?” asked Brandy indignantly. “I mean, well…” Suddenly Brandy grinned at the mare who was looking at her with one ear pricked and one ear loped. “Dont’ worry. I’ll never like any boy better than my horse.”

“Don’t be too sure,” Saggitta replied as she slung her neck around Brandy’s shoulder. Brandy giggled, pushed her away, gave her a kiss on her white star, and walked out of the stall. “Just neigh if you need anything!” she called. Emily was looking at her with an expression of bewilderment on her face now. Brandy hastily tried to repair her error. “I mean, ah, ha HA! I mean uh, ah, ha, you know, uh, hmm, let’s go back to the house!”

  36. Amanda Says:

Brandy tried to ignore Emily’s look of bewilderment as she headed back to the house, Emily following slowly behind. They hadn’t gotten far, however, when Sagitta’s neigh brought Brandy to a stop. The look on Emily’s face was priceless.

Brandy smiled awkwardly. “Just a coincidence, I guess.”

Emily stared after her as Brandy walked back over to the wooden barn.

Brandy was sure to keep her voice down this time. “What is it, Sagitta? Do you neeed me already?”

The mare answered, “Before, when I said not to spend too much time with the other horses or the boy, you misunderstood me. Its not becasue I’m jealous, because I’m NOT, its that…well…ummm…I don’t know how to say this…”

Brandy stared at the mare with a curious expression on her face. “You can tell me anything.”

The mare took a breathed a deep sigh. “Well, sometimes horses just know things, and this is one of those things. Here goes; Emily and Jared aren’t who you think they are. They lied to you about who they-” Sagitta was interrupted by Emily.

“Are you coming, Tia?” Emily said her name rather sarcasticly.

“I don’t understand, but right now I have to go. We’ll talk later.”

  37. Mirriam Says:

Brandy walked away with a shiver, wondering what she had gotten herself into.

  38. Breanna Says:

As they walked into the house Emily closed the door behind them. Brandy looked up and gasped. Jared’s hair was blond where it was brown before.

“Alan what are you doing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Emily shrieked at the same time she grabbed Brandy.

Jared… or Alan looked at her and for the first time their eyes met. Brandy knew him from some where but where? She knew she heard the name Alan but where?

Emily was still pelting him with questions: “You were supposed to stick to the plan!” she accused.

“Oh I am sticking to the plan” Jared said, “my plan.”

“And what is that?” Emily said sarcastically.

“Basically Stephine protecting Brandy,” he answered.

“What!?!?!?! Why? I thought you hated her!” Emily or apparently Stephine shrieked.

“Sorry twin sister. Alan Stauffer oviously tricked you with the help of his older sister, Jean.” Alan was oviously trying to tell her some thing but what? Or was it a trick too? Wait Alan Stuaffer!!!!!!! The Stauffer family had recently moved into Brandy’s neighborhood. Alan was cool but he had a obnoxious annoying no good twin sister. But his older sister Jean had been babysitting when Olivia had faked being thrown… wait, was Olivia in on this too?

  39. Mirriam Says:

Brandy’s head was spinning. Was she being kidnapped?

  40. Alexys Says:

She cleared her head and now Emily was standing over her with a very sharp knife. Her horses words kept playing in her head.’Emily and Jared aren’t who you think they are!’

Brady looked at Emily. “Emily what are you doing?”

At the sight of Brady waking, she quickly hid the knife. “I, ah, um wanted to um, see if you wanted anything to eat”, she said helping Brady to her feet from the kitchen floor. “What is going on”, Brady demanded!

  41. Amanda Says:

Jared, or Alan, looked at Emily, who was looking at him. The two exchanged frustrated glances before Jared(or Alan) finally spoke. “Look, Brandy-” Jared was interrupted by Brandy.

“Wait a second, how do you know my name? I told you it was Tia!” Brandy jumped to her feet in fear and prepared to run for the door, which still stood open.

Suddenly, she felt a sharp sting in her arm. When she looked down Emily was pulling a syringe from Brandy’s arm.

“What are you doing? Are you crazy?! Drugging her was a last resort!” Jared, or Alan, cried.

“I had to! She was going to run!” said Emily, defensively.

That’s all Brandy heard before she sank to the floor, unconscious.

  42. Mirriam Says:

    …”Valuable horse”… “…Shouldn’t have drugged her”… “…you thinking?…” “….didn’t plan on….”
All Brandy could hear was bits and snatches of the conversation her two kidnappers were having. Wait a second. Valuable horse? What on earth? He must be talking about Harley - he was pretty impressive.

Another strain of talking came to her ears. “…Saggitta, she called her…” “…Registered name is Sassy Shenanigans…” “…pureblood Shagya arab…” Brandy sat straight up, her head spinning. She dropped it into her hands, hoping the dizzy, nausiating feeling would leave. She heard Jared/Alan’s voice. “She’s awake.” She could hear him walk over, and she felt his hand touch her arm. It was warm. He must have been clenching his fists. “Brandy?” His voice shot daggers through her head.

“O-oh,” she groaned, sagging backwards. “I think you dosed her a little bit too much, ‘Emily,’” he growled at his sister.

“Only ten CC’s, that was hardly any at all! She must just be fragile,” sniffed Emily defensively.

  43. Amanda Says:

Suddenly Brandy had an idea as to how she could escape. Since Sagitta could understand her, all she had to do was call for help. But wait…Sagitta was trapped in that shed. Hmmmm…Brandy thought and thought until she finally came up with a plan…

  44. Amanda Says:

And now to set her plan into motion, “I need some water. I’m thirsty.” she said. Emily looked at Jared/Alan.

“What, you want her to thirst to death too? She can have water. Jeez, what is with you lately?!”

Jared walked around the small island and over to the sink. He bent down to get a glass out of the cabinet. In the meantime, Emily stormed into the other room and upstairs to pout.

She was furious. How dare Alan talk to her like that! He knew that everything she did, had to be done. She wasn’t some evil person like he apparently thought.

While Jared was bent down searching for a glass, and Emily was upstairs mad, Brandy took advantage. There was a small pipe laying near the the dishwasher next to the island. It was only a few feet from Brnady, so she slid the Chair across the wooden floor and over to the pipe. She was thankful to the felt on the bottom of the chair legs. If it wern’t for that, Jared would hear her.

When she reached the pipe, she turned the chair and leaned back. She felt the coolness of the pipe brush her fingers. Her plan was going smoothly! She clenched the pole in her fingers and slid back to where she had been before. Jared was now at the sink with his back to Brandy, filling the glass with water. Brandy turned the pipe and used its sharp edge to cut away at the ropes. The pipe wasn’t very sharp, but it seemed to be working somewhat.

The glass being full, Jared walked back over to Brandy. Brandy moved the pipe faster. She was almost done…

“Here you g-” Jared was interrupted by a crack to the head. He fell to the floor much like Brandy when she had been drugged. Brandy dropped the pipe to the floor and began to fiddle with the knots that held her to the chair. The crashing noise of the pipe must have alerted Emily. Brandy could hear her coming down the stairs. Within seconds she would come through the doorway. There! Brandy undid the last knot and jumped from her her chair and dashed out the door. Just as the door banged closed she heard Emily shriek.

“Alan?! Are you okay?! What did she do?! Where is she?!!”

Brandy felt a little bad about hitting Jared/Alan, but she had to, in order to escape. She flew over the ground toward the stable. There was no need to be quiet now; they knew she was gone. “Sagitta?! Sagitta?! Help!”

There was no answer from the mare. Just then, Emily came running from the house. She was about the same size as Brandy but she was still much faster. Brandy was almost to the stable when Emily caught her.

“No!” Brandy shouted but it was too late. Emily grabbed her legs and pulled her to the ground. The two girls wrestled for a while before Brandy finally got mad. “How dare these people take me! How dare they take my horse!” Anger and adrenelin pumped through Brandy’s viens. She punched Emily in the ribs. Hard. Emily screamed and Brandy punched again. And again. Then she climbed to her feet and kicked her. “Sagitta!!” she called again. When Emily lay still on the ground and was in too much pain to chase her, Brandy made a dash for the stable. Just then, the door to the shed burst open and Sagitta came running out.

“Climb to my back. It’s time to go.” Brandy needed no further encouragement. She hopped to the mare’s back and rode like the wind. She never even had to tell Sagitta which way to go. The mare already knew.

  45. Angelica (Mirriam) Says:

They raced through the woods, twigs and branches tearing at her skin and clothes and hair. She didn’t care. She had to get away from that crazy, mixed up place in the woods with mysterious telepathic horses and people with fake names. She had to talk to Olivia.
