Lipizzaners!

Brittany went to the world class Lipizzaner’s show a week or so ago, and then sent me these pictures. As you can see, these are some of the most amazing, beautiful, talented horses in the world!

    Yeah, they are fantastic!
The mother of one of my friends (where I began to ride) has an aunt (she’s a baroness) who is breeding Lipizzaners and we had 4 in our stable a few years ago:
Barona (a 7 years old gray mare, she was one of the school horses)
Allegra (Barona’s foal, she was a totally cute brown filly with a small blaze, but I think she is now also white)
Troika (or Toska, a 4 years old dapple gray mare, she was ‘my’ horse for a short time)
Maestoso Amata (he was a 4 years old dapple gray stallion, now he is one of the stallions in the Fürstliche Hofreitschule in Bückeburg near Hannover. I found a pic: Click here to see it. )

  2. Angela Dorsey Says:

    Wow, how gorgeous he is!

  3. Stephenie Says:

My Mom loves them! They are gorgeous horses. :D

  4. Stephanie Says:

    I LOVE Lippi’s! They ARE gorgeous!♥♥♥

  5. Brittany Says:

It was an AWESOME show! If any of you ever get a chance to go to one, you must go! thanks for putting it on here Angela! :D

  6. Mirriam Says:

I have seen them twice - they are amazing and gorgeous!

  7. Stephenie Says:

I personally think it is wrong to make horses pull off those moves. :(

  8. Rachel D. Says:

I’ve been to the show once and it was AMAZING! I love lippizanners- my trainer was offered a job for the show- but one of the stallions threw a fit and kickied her- pinning her against the stall wall! They are so georgeous though.

  9. Sara Says:

    THEY ARE SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!

      :D :D :D

  10. Stephenie Says:

My PONY package should be coming soon! It’s May, right? :P Sorry. Little excited. :D

  11. Anne-Line Says:

Lippizaners are angel-like creatures. They have such elegant movement, and because they are so white, it looks like they glow! You are so lucky, Brittany, who got to see them live! :)

Yesterday I was confirmed :). I got lots of fine presents: my own laptop, some jewelry and rings, lots of money and an adorable jewlery box! :)

  12. Angela Dorsey Says:

Congratulations on your confirmation, Anne-Line! And wow, what awesome presents!

I agree that they look like angels - real horse angels!

  13. Brittany Says:

I think all horses are like angels. Especially the ones that are abused, because they know not to take life for granted. They know any horses life could be turned around. They take the simple joys in life and turn them into a wonderful experience. It’s so sad watching Animal Cops or Animal Precint and seeing all those abused animals. But it’s really great to see what wonderful animals they can be once they get a loving home. :)

Sorry I get carried away sometimes. :D

  14. Angela Dorsey Says:

Its a good thing there are such kind people out there who love animals. They help to make up for the mean people, though nothing can fully make up for the cruel things that some people do.

  15. Kathryn Says:

Lipizzaners are sooo pretty! But then again, I say that for any horse….. They do look really stunning. It would be an amazing experience to do those tricks with one of those beautiful gray horses…………

  16. Angela Dorsey Says:

It certainly would. I would love to even touch one!

  17. Kathryn Says:

It would. I’d love to see one of them live.

  18. Tavia Says:

It would be SOOOOOOOOO amazing to see one of them up close. I would love to be able to meet a Lipizzaner, even just at a stable or something, even if I didn’t see them perform.

I hate it when any animal is mistreated, but I agree with you completely, Angela. It’s always good to remember that there are plenty of kind people out there who really care for animals.

  19. Kathryn Says:

It would be totally incredible to see one up close. Didn’t Emma go to a Lipizzaner show or something, Tavia?

I agree, it’s terrible how people mistreat their animals, but there are people who love and care for their animals. Myself, I don’t understand people who mistreat animals, expecially horses, they’re so sweet and kind! If only they had less hair…….

  20. Tavia Says:

Yeah, I think Emma did go to a Lipizzaner show, last summer. I’ll ask her to add something here (Emma, if you’re reading this, that is a hint!)

And Kathryn, I don’t see what is wrong with horses having hair. If they didn’t, grooming would not be as much fun. And since horses all have black skin (except maybe albinos?) there would be no different colours of horses. They would also probably freeze to death in the winter, and they would be more easily injured. Nature does things for a reason! :P

  21. Kathryn Says:

I didn’t say NO hair, Tavia! I know nature does things for reasons and everything….. Maybe I should say ‘I wish horses had different hair that looks just the same’ because they are very beautiful how they are. For people who are reading this (other than Emma and Tavia) and are very confused, I’m allergic to horses’ hair. Except Curly horses are supposed to be hypoallergenic.

  22. Brittany Says:

It was so tempting at the lipizzaner show! I had front seats so they walked right in front of me! I soooooooo wanted to reach out and pet their smooth coats!!!!!!!!

  23. Tavia Says:

Sorry, Kate. But truthfully, I would rather you not be allergic to horse hair than horses not have hair at all - even a different type. :) Where did you find out about Curly horses? I’ve never heard of them!

That must have been really hard, Brittany, not to pet the Lipizzaners! But its good you didn’t - imagine if you had and they spooked or shied or something, because of you! That would be SO embarrassing and awful! Still, it must have been amazing to have front row seats!!!! :D Lucky you!

  24. Kathryn Says:

Ha, ha, ha, ha. I read about Curly horses in a Canadian Horse Journal. The current issue.

That would have been really hard, to not touch them! It really must have been amazing! To see the horses. How tall (in average) are Lipizzaner Stallions?

  25. Tavia Says:

I think about 15.1 to 16.2 hands. (according to one of my horse books).

  26. Kathryn Says:

    Ok, thanks, Tavia!

  27. Tavia Says:

Hey, what is everyone’s favourite breed of horse? I think we all agree that Lipizzaners are fantastic, but what other breed’s do you like?

Personally, I love all breeds (I think personality is more important than colour or breeding). Although there is an Arabian horse that I love, and he’s cute and has a wonderful, inquisitive personality.

  28. Brittany Says:

Hmmm, thats a tough one. I think my favorite breed is the American Quarter Horse, or the Appaloosa. I used to have an Appy a long time ago, but he got blind as he grew older. then he got really skittish and scared if anyone went near him so he had to be put down. :( I can barely remember him though. But right now I have 4 Quarter horses, and one is at a horse show nearby.

I also love all breeds, and I wouldn’t care if my horse was the ugliest horse in the world, as long as its good natured and sweet.

  29. Kathryn Says:

I really don’t have a favourite breed. Like both of you, what I really care about in a horse is that is gentle, kind, sweet, and willing to be my friend. I don’t think it would be fun to ride a horse who always wanted to get away from you.

  30. Emma Says:

Sorry it took me a while to catch on, guys! yes, Tavia and Kate, I did go to a Lippizanner show. I didn’t know you were allowed to take pictures, or I totally would have, but it DID sort of spoil the show. Picture this: dark arena, spotlight on the horse dancing in, and suddenly about thirty flashes of light within a millisecond of each other. It sort of spoiled the effect. But I loved it!! I bought a hat, shirt, and program. (Remember how much Grandpop loved the program, Tavia? He borrowed it when we were working on the LOTRGW for Mom to write out that quote right before Christmas).

In case anyone is confused, Tavia, Kate, and I are best friends.

Which Arabian are you talking about, Tavia? Oooh, I think I know. Is it Ace? I thought of Q first, but he’s Thoroughbred. Is Scooter Welsh? Then I like Welsh. If he’s not, I like whatever Scooter is.

  31. Emma Says:

I have Curlys in my big Encyclopedia - remember it?

Lippizans are about 15.2-16.2hh, aren’t they? I did them for my Groom test. (This has got to be frustrating guys. Why don’t we just email each other? Nobody else will know what we mean.)

About Lippizans being mistreated…my grandma says it’s improved alot. She went there 20 years before she took me. A guy fell off, and whipped his horse. At the one she took me to, a guy fell off, and calmed him down and just tried it again… and they did it!!!!!!!

  32. Angela Dorsey Says:

Thats really great to know, Emma.

  33. Tavia Says:

Scooter isn’t Welsh, I don’t think. I can ask about it - I was wondering myself. But I’m fairly positive he’s not. Paddy (another gray pony, if anyone is wondering) was Welsh - they are really easy to distinguish, because they have Arabian background, and have a dished face and ears, and that cute look. Plus, they’re pretty small, it depends on what kind of Welsh it is. And that is really cool about the guy falling off and calming him down. Thanks for sharing!

  34. Kathryn Says:

Oh, you do? Can you bring it to NC in August? I’d love to read it!

I just realized…you might not know what I’m talking about. The encyclopedia with the information on Curly horses. :)

  35. Tavia Says:

If you like whatever breed Scooter is, Emma, you’re kind of stuck! No one knows what breeds he is, because he is a mixed-breed pony. In that case, he could very well be partially Welsh! :)

  36. Gabrielle Says:

My FAV breed of horse is the Hanoverian (I hope nobody minds me getting into this conversation). The are really cool. I’ve never ridden one. I’ve ridden Paints, TN Walking Horses, Quarter Horses, and a Chincoteague Pony.

I can’t wait to go riding again! Oh, to have a horse of my own… (sigh)

  37. Angela Dorsey Says:

I’ve ridden Paints, TN Walking Horses, and Quarter Horses too, but never a Chincoteague Pony. That is so cool!

  38. Kathryn Says:

Yeah, it would be cool to ride a Chincoteague. I’m not to picky in what breed of horse I ride, though. Any horse will do! ;)

  39. Angela Dorsey Says:

    Me too.

  40. Tavia Says:

It’s definitely cool to ride any breed of horse! It is amazing how different it can feel to ride different breeds, though. I have ridden horses who feel like they’re walking side to side instead of just moving straight, if that makes any sense. It is a really weird rocking movement (the horse I remember the most who was like that is named Blackjack - he is a QH Percheron cross, I think…very big!)
